Making Money and Attracting Traffic to your Site
This is my first post in this blog. I am not new in blogging, in fact I started blogging in early 2008 but I stopped posting after a few months and neglected my blog for almost a year. I resume posting on my blog in November 2009 after reminding myself that I could again try and earn some extra cash from blogging. In reality, over the years I have always been hopeful that I will be able make some money from the internet. I was in the era of 12Dailypro, paid to click programs, and all those money making scams on that are abounded in the net and I did lost a considerable amount of money. That is the main reason why I got fed up and lost confidence in internet.
When I revisited my blog again in early November, it only had about 25 posts and the Google page rank is 0/10. I eventually logged into my Adsense account after a long search for my login ID and password. I have a balance of $38.98! Well, frankly speaking I did have three sites in 2008; two on them were Google blogspots and one on a paid domain – a dedicated website. I thrashed the sites after I lost so much money from money making scams that I joined.
Before starting to update my blog and probably opening other new blogs, I decided to do a thorough research about moneymaking opportunities on the internet, tips on writing good and reliable blogs, how to attract traffics and so on and so forth. It was a one-month mind boggling experience, seeping in and out of the internet for information. I found a few tips that could be useful to you and other bloggers alike who wish to earn some extra cash from their blogs. So here are my tips:
1. Specify a topic which you are interested in. Make blogging a passion and ensure that the topic of your blog is something that you are interested in. Do not care about whether you have experience or knowledge about the topic; they will come eventually through practice overtime.
2. Make writing a passion too because blogging after all is all about putting your minds into writing. If you hate writing a long post then stick to short notes and opt for blogging about videos and pictures instead. Those of you, whose first language is not English, try typing all your ideas that crops into your mind first and editing them later, changing to your choice of words, correcting grammatical mistakes, spelling and so on. Use Microsoft Words to type so that your spelling mistakes are automatically corrected and the choice of appropriate tenses are provided. Use a MS Word internal thesaurus to change some words that you overused. However, visitors will not mind even if you have grammatical mistakes in your blog, what is more important are the information that you are offering them, so don’t worry too much on grammar unless you are writing a blog about grammar.
3. Look for reliable advertisement serving application such as Google Adsense, Adbrite, Chitika, and affiliate programs such as Amazon. Make sure that you choose only one or two of this service. Too many types of ads will cram your blog and visitors may realize that you are only blogging for money and not sharing of information.
4. Attract traffic to your blog. Register your blog to free blog directories that are abound in the internet. Choose the most popular one such as alexa, technorati, linkreferral, topblogarea, topofblogs, yousaytoo, and many more. (Please remember that some directories may require at least a minimum of five posts in your blog to be accepted)
5. Create a list of followers. You can do this through Google Friend Connect, Twitter, facebook and even in blog directories such as Mybloglog. Visit other blogs, leave interesting comments to their posts and add yourself as their follower. Normally, they will do likewise- visiting your blog and adding themselves to your list. Keep looking for new followers. There and thousands of blogs out there and make followers seeking as your daily chores.
6. Update your blogs regularly, daily if possible but if are doing this as a part-time endeavor then updating twice a week will be fine. Settle on quality over quantity; do not write several posts in a day if quality is not guaranteed. People will just leave your blog if your contents are nothing but craps. A careful preparation before you write your blog is very important, think of what you want your reader to benefit from reading your post.
These are the things that I did to my neglected blog and surprisingly within only two months, I had an increased Google Pagerank of 1/10, 17 followers in Google Friend Connect and am currently building up followers in Facebook and Mybloglog. I checked my Adsense account again yesterday and I had only $0.34 in November and $0.28 in December. I was not demotivated by this very small revenue; at least I am still making money and not losing. I will continue updating this blog and my other blog and will toil harder to work on traffics and revenue optimization. Until my next post...Cheers!
